CD-Review: GT

GT
"The Infamous" (Northstar)
If you like your hip-hop as straight party music with bangin' beats and sophomoric humor, rapper GT's "The Infamous" is just what you're looking for.

The Los Angeles rapper doesn't bother with social or political concerns, he is simply out to rip dance-happy tracks with stupid/funny lyrics. And that is not a put-down; there nothing wrong with a CD that makes you want to dance even if some of the lyrics might make you cringe.

While GT doesn't always hit the mark on "The Infamous," he has a firm idea of what he wants to do and does it reasonably well.
The best track on the CD is "Dance Nasty (remix)." The production on the track is excellent; the high-speed, high-energy beat should keep dance floors filled in the clubs.
"Lookin' For A Cutie With A Big Ass Booty" rides on a heavy funk beat with hand claps and rock guitar riffs while GT raps the praises of shapely female backsides.
"Let The Party Roll" and "Do It Til It Hurts" are tightly-produced tracks that keep the dance vibe alive.
On "It's Halloween," GT turns the holiday into a call for sex. Those who are easily offended would be wise to either get a sense of humor or avoid this track altogether.
While not particularly original or groundbreaking, GT's "The Infamous" works for what it is: a fun party CD.
